The term “wireless” technically means radio, and can refer to any telephone that used radio waves as its means of transmission. In the Unites States the term “wireless phone service” often is used to refer to cell phones, but can also include a wide range of services including cordless phones, mobile phones, or phones that can function as cordless when near the base, and wireless when mobile. Some types of wireless phones work like cellular phones but only within a small private network covering a building or group of buildings. These kinds of systems using VoIP (Voice over IP) are popular in hospitals and factories where the same wireless network can be used for both data and voice.
