Fiber optics may be known as a thin, transparent fiber, some times made of glass or plastic that transmits light. Fiber optics could be applied to telecommunication systems as well as in illumination, sensors and imaging optics. Optical fiber may be used for telecommunication and networking because it is flexible and can be bundled as cables. Where fiber optics is used for telecommunication, primarily glass fiber optics may be used because of the lower optical attenuation. Fiber optics may be used as sensors for measuring strain, pressure, temperature and other aspects of sensing. Sensors for temperature and pressure may be used for measurement of oil wells down in their hole. Fiber optic sensor may be appropriate for oil wells because it might function better than other means at high temperatures. Fiber optics may also be used for illumination applications in such fields as medicine, decorative applications and where bright light needs to be used to bear on the target.
